What makes me feel
He says, “Everyone seeks their own narrative.” I can agree with that; I’m often seeking some kind of purpose, a cause. I worry about not having something to stand for. I worry that I’ll become art for arts sake. Part of me wants to do away with this notion and remember to do things that make me happy. Because you live and you die and that’s where true fulfillment lies. However, it can be argued that the greatest fulfillment comes from giving. Finding things and sharing them. My design work suffers in its self indulgence. But I’m learning to listen. I’m practicing. It is a lost art I’m trying to revive for myself. I reread what I write to ask questions and to argue. To evaluate and reevaluate my ideas and behavior. To understand why I’m intimidated by anything and everything. To know what it is that holds me back. Mostly, to understand if i’m even held back or figure out if things are going at the rate they’re supposed to. I get too philosophical when I say things like that. I remember that I read in too deeply. I calculate too often. I look for formulas.

There are none. I mustn’t forget that life is not mathematics. I’ve mentioned that there are ever-changing variables in life. So formulas would always be skewed and off balance, anyway. But that matters to me. My need for balance is what drives me. I can speak of needing balance. I can’t talk about it as if I have solutions, but I can empathize with those also seek it. But too often my heart swims up through my larynx. It leaves its cage and fights with its neighbor. My heart often loses. It crawls back to its cage—trampled. It tells me that I give too much attention to its neighbor. I’m off when I think too much and forget to pay attention to what makes me feel. But maybe that’s not the case all the time—I can’t say for sure. I can never say for sure.
